Adult Education at the BCC-JCG The study of Bible has been compared by the rabbis to the sea: no matter where you jump in, it stretches out in all directions. It can always be viewed from a new angle, a broader perspective incorporating your own personal experience. As an avid snorkeler (my annual High Holiday gig is in St. Thomas), I also view the sea as a perfect metaphor for the Bible: the surface gives no hint of the riches that lie deeper down, and the deeper you dive, the more incredible the riches. All you need is curiosity, patience, and the right set of goggles! The Bible is not a book of legends, not an objective account of history, nor is it a scientific document. It is an interpretation of the beginnings, development and growing self-awareness of a people in its search for sacred meaning. The process of Bible study joins us to the line of tradition, as we commit ourselves through classes like this one to enriching and renewing that tradition, and passing it on to our children. Why would you take this course? Several reasons:
We look forward to seeing you in class! First session will be October 10th at the JCC. Cost for the classes ranges between $60 - $100 depending on enrollment. For more information about the Adult Education program call Henri Mitler at (301) 251-9651. Cantor Helen Leneman |
